Do you support domestic AIDS advocacy initiatives – or want to know how to start?

In response to the overwhelming consensus of the participants of FCAA’s first annual gathering (September 2009) that domestic advocacy was an issue in need of critical attention from funders, FCAA convened the first meeting of the Domestic Advocacy Working Group (DAWG) on March 10th to discuss the current state of domestic HIV/AIDS advocacy, and begin to explore FCAA’s role in assisting funders in better understanding the issues, identifying urgent gaps, sharing best practices, developing collaborative approaches, and maximizing available resources for the work.

Review the group's full recommendations from the 3/10 meeting.

DAWG is co-chaired by David Munar, Vice President, Policy & Communications, AIDS Foundation of Chicago, and Melanie Havelin, Executive Director, John M. Lloyd Foundation.

Next Steps:

DAWG members have proposed a larger meeting in December 2010 (Date TBD) to convene partners in the philanthropic and advocacy communities to shine a light on urgent gaps within domestic AIDS advocacy that merit additional private support. FCAA is convening a planning group to move forward with the proposed meeting.  For more info, please read the meeting concept note.

If you are willing to contribute time, expertise and/or resources toward this project, please contact John Barnes (john@fcaaids.org) to join our planning group.
