FCAA’s new resource tracking report provides new information on 2008 HIV/AIDS grantmaking among 345 U.S.-based private philanthropic institutions. This year’s report includes a list of the top 72 funders who disbursed $300,000 (U.S.) or more to HIV/AIDS in 2008, as well as analysis of funds by geographical region and by intended use, the top three main population groups to which their funding was directed, and grantmaker forecasts for funding increases or decreases in 2009. New for 2009, FCAA asked funders to submit examples of innovative programs they are supporting. Profiled work includes: building the next generation of leaders in HIV prevention and advocacy; taking a collaborative approach to comprehensive sexual education in an urban school district; and funding grassroots organizations to effectively reach at-risk populations on-the-ground.
FCAA’s continued partnership with the European Foundation Centre’s European HIV/AIDS Funders Group (EFG) and UNAIDS has resulted in a refined survey methodology and collaborative launch strategy, as well as new insight into the global landscape of HIV/AIDS philanthropy. Explore Appendix D for an enhanced contact list and profiles of select funding organizations located outside of the U.S. and Western and Central Europe.

2005 & 2006 Data Released in September 2007
This report incorporated several new elements, including reporting of actual disbursements in addition to commitments in a given year; data for two years (2005 and 2006); and revised regional classifications to match broadly accepted definitions. U.S. Philanthropic Commitments for HIV/AIDS: 2005 & 2006 also features "sidebar" narratives on innovative grantmaking that cannot be reflected in the reported data, including Katrina-related HIV/AIDS giving, funding critical issues, collaborative funding alliances, foundations who did not make the "Top Funders" list, and in-kind giving. For a list of 2005 and 2006 Top Funders and their websites, please click here.
The following resources are listed in order to assist grantmakers
and others in becoming and staying better informed about HIV/AIDS
resource flows.
This resource list is by no means exhaustive. Therefore, we encourage
private funders, government officials, and others who may use this
list to search for additional materials or organizations, especially
at the local level domestically and in specific countries internationally,
that may enhance your knowledge base and your work.
