Recent years have seen a sharp rise in attacks on our bodily and sexual freedoms in the U.S., from abortion bans and internet censorship to draconian restrictions on trans healthcare and the criminalization of HIV. The recent election has further raised the ante on these attacks, with far-right actors prepared to implement Project 2025’s sweeping agenda to roll back the freedoms of LGBTQ people, restrict sexual and reproductive rights, and dismantle support for people with HIV. These attacks not only have devastating policy implications for our communities, they have also fostered a culture of fear and stigmatization around our own bodies, sexualities, and health.

This webinar will provide updates on how current and future right-wing attacks impact the policy and cultural landscape of sexual and bodily freedom. It asks whether funders and nonprofits have been too quick to sanitize or outright avoid honest discussions of our bodily and sexual selves and lives. We’ll hear from movement leaders and funders who are fighting back in proactive and creative ways, from declaring homophobia and transphobia a public health emergency to using arts and culture to articulate a bolder vision for our collective freedom to love and live.
